Cherie Blair, Ken Dodd, Liz McClarnon and others launch Liverpool Ambassador Programme

On Thursday celebrities joined up outside Whitechapel’s 08 Place to launch Liverpool’s 08 Ambassador Programme, a scheme to promote the city in the build up to Capital of Culture. Those who join will get a fact sheet detailing the city’s cultural assets, a badge and regular updates about Liverpool and its programme of events and development in the lead up to 2008. Joining Cherie Blair at the launch were Doddy, ex Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon, jazz musician George Melly, olympic swimmer Stephen Parry, Tranmere Rovers chairman Lorraine Rogers and singer Gerry Marsden (YNWA!). According to an item by Sam Lister of the Daily Post, Cllr Warren Bradley, Liverpool City Council leader, said: “We want everyone who loves Liverpool to tell the world about why Liverpool is a great city to visit and why it will be a brilliant European Capital of Culture in 2008.”  To join the Ambassador Programme, go to the Liverpool 08 website and complete the online form.
