Millionaire Spaniard in talks on LFC stake

Juan Villalonga, the former president of phone giant Telefonica, is reportedly in talks regarding a £42 million stake in Liverpool Football Club. "I want Liverpool to change from a domestically focused club into a global force", he told the Daily Express. News of the talks follows earlier interest from local boy and Redrow Homes tycoon Steve Morgan and discussions between Rick Parry and Robert Kraft of the multi-millionaire US family late last year. Morgan's investment offer was turned down and it is unclear how far the Kraft discussions have gone. With a growing bill – now estimated up to £200 million – for the Stanley Park stadium and manager Rafa Benitez looking to strengthen the playing squad, additional investment needs to be brought in from somewhere. However, chairman David Moores has so far been reluctant to reduce his 51% majority stake.
