Images of Liverpool in the Eighties

Bunnymen Pub GigLiverpool's Downtown website has a couple of great links that show very different sides of Liverpool in the '80s and capture the mood of the time. It is well worth reproducing the links here for anyone that attended an Echo and the Bunnymen gig on any number of rainy evenings in the early '80s or caught Derek Hatton in full flow. The first is a collection by Peter Hagerty of 36 views of what was then a blighted urban landscape around Mount James. The second, and my favourite, also shows how far the city has come while rekindling some very nostalgic feelings about the music, shopping in 69A, wearing shapeless, oversize overcoats and all that stuff. The pictures are by an American girl from Seatlle who was in Liverpool at college at the time.
