Work starts on city route development

The £350 million redevelopment of the Edge Lane dual carriageway is now due to get under way. The new route, under the auspices of the Liverpool Land Development Company, will provide a fast link from the city to the M62, after controversial plans were approved over the concerns of local MPs and residents, who are now subject to compuslory purchase orders. About 400 residents of Edge Lane will be forced to sell their homes after Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott upheld the findings of a public enquiry earlier this year.
